Peppermint (R) Action – Soccer mom Jennifer Garner sets out for revenge against the drug gang that killed her family.

Smallfoot (PG) Animated musical – Yetis live high in the mountains and think that human “smallfeet” are legendary monsters. Good animation, catchy tunes. With the voices of Danny DeVito and LeBron James.

Once Upon a Deadpool (PG-13) Action fantasy – Deadpool 2 has been re-edited to a more family-friendly level of violence and profanity. In theaters Friday December 14

The Favourite (R) Historical comedy/drama – Cousins Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone become intimate with Queen Anne (Olivia Coleman). Off-beat Oscar contender.

Mortal Engines (PG-13) Fantasy – In a post-apocalyptic future, trouble brews within moving cities. From producer Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings).

The Mule (R) Drama – Clint Eastwood (who also directed) plays a World War II veteran who was forced by financial setbacks to become a drug mule. Based on a true story. Another Oscar dark horse.

Roma (R) Drama – Writer/director Alfonso Cuaron tells an autobiographical story of growing up in Mexico City during the 1970s. Beautifully filmed in black and white. Strong Oscar contender.

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse (PG) Animation – A new Spider-Man must deal with the Spider-Verse where multiple Spider-Men exist.

Special screening Monday December 17

They Shall Not Grow Old (not rated) Documentary – Peter Jackson’s (Lord of the Rings) production company has colorized film footage of British troops in World War I

 The House with a Clock in Its Walls (PG) Fantasy – Young Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) goes to live with his uncle (Jack Black) in a mysterious mansion and inadvertently awakens evil warlocks and wizards. With Cate Blanchett. Directed by Eli Roth.

The Predator (R) SF/horror – He’s baaack… 31 years later, the series is reinvented by its creator, writer/director Shane Black. With Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Jane and Olivia Munn.

A Simple Favor (R) Suspense – After Blake Lively disappears from their small town, her best friend Anna Kendrick investigates.

Venom (R) SF Action – Tom Hardy merges with an alien lifeform that occasionally takes over his body. An evil corporation wants the critter.
